About Rod
Like most artists, art was an interest at a very early age, right from the crayon. My interest in cars and the automotive culture probably came about just as early. Plans for projects, whether it be car related or not, generated the need to draw. Drawing was a very important part of every thing I did. All through grade school I was always asked to draw posters and different things for school functions. I thought this was great because It got me out of class to do what I loved, DRAW!
It wasn't until the mid '90s that I discovered this wonderful thing called the airbrush. This opened up a whole new world because now I could not only draw, but draw on virtually anything in colour . Knowing I had the talent to draw I knew I had to master this new instrument. My wife Cynthia usually made first contact with very well known artists all over North America and I was introduced to them so I could learn the craft. That's when my traveling days started. I am still amazed to this day that I was able to have met and be instructed by these fantastic artists. These artists are to me what movie stars would be to most people. After a couple of trips away I had the prerequisites needed to do more classes. I feel education is a very important part of an artist's growth and feel every artist can learn from one another to better themselves and their work.
With an arsenal of information under my belt I felt I was ready to paint and combine my second passion, cars. In 2001, I released my first automotive print titled "High Idle" from a memory I had as a kid in the early seventies. Since that time painting cars has been my only subject of choice and the passion to paint.
With the custom car culture being as big today as it has ever been, I have plans to continue learning and traveling to meet other artists and car enthusiasts alike, both locally and internationally. Future travels I am hoping to make are Europe and Australia.
I currently live with my wife Cynthia and two children, Kasey and Jarod, in Portugal Cove, Newfoundland - Canada's most easterly province.
I hope you enjoy my work as much as I do creating it.
